I was always intrigued by physical fitness since my mother took me along when she taught Aerobics classes when I was 7. I was never skilled but I played sports all the way through high school with moderate success. It wasn't until I went to Colorado State University, where I earned my B.S. in Exercise Science, did I understand how I could mold my body. Since then I have made it my mission to help my clients, friends, and family achieve their fitness goals. My passion is to help as many people as I can change their lives for the better through fitness and be the best father I can be for my family.
Crossfit Coach / Olympic Lifting Coach: Judy Severn
Education:
Over the years I have trained in sports such as rowing, speed-skating, downhill mt biking and powerlifting. My desire to improve my own sports performance led me to the weight room and ultimately the start of a 20+ yr long career in the fitness industry. I have been beyond lucky and grateful to have experienced working with and coached by world record holders, world champions, elite soldiers and other military personnel from various countries during my time in Canada, Iraq and Kuwait. In 2006, while working as a DOD fitness coordinator in Iraq, I was introduced to Crossfit by a US Army Major, and it exposed my weaknesses but also showed my areas of strength. I was Hooked!!! In 2008 I obtained my CF Level 1. Shortly after, I moved to Colorado where I certified in Olympic lifting with USA Weightlifting (USAW).
Folks who know me, refer to me as a technician. I am someone who craves experience and knowledge so I can be the best instructor and coach for all individuals I work with. Having coached 3yr olds to 85 year olds, competitive athletes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, those with nerve damage. and persons seeking to better their health and fitness, my goal as an instructor is to make sure that all folks I work with enjoy themselves and discover new incite as to how strong and capable their bodies are regardless of age, injury, medical diagnosis, or goals in a fun, safe, and inviting atmosphere.

Although I had been on my high school cross country team (I hesitate to call what I did “running”), attended some Crossfit classes in 2012, and attempted Murph every year with my husband, I didn’t genuinely start to care about my health or fitness until the birth of my daughter in 2015. I couldn’t pretend anymore that I wasn’t overweight and that it was affecting my ability to do normal daily activities without getting winded.
In the fall of 2015 I made a commitment to myself to “get in shape”, whatever that meant. Over the next 6 months I lost over 40 lbs and finally learned to love running. However, muscular imbalances from scoliosis kept me from being able to achieve new running goals. I started training with Ethan shortly after I moved to Windsor in the summer of 2016. Within a year I replaced another 10lbs of body fat with 15lbs of muscle, dropped 5 minutes off my 10k time, and fell in love with Crossfit and weightlifting.
When Ethan asked me to become a Crossfit trainer, then a personal trainer after giving birth to my son, I knew I wanted to help people develop and achieve specific fitness goals. I hope to show people how exercise can be more than just something to endure for the sake of “getting in shape”.

I love the camaraderie, motivation, and support group fitness brings. We all are looking for something different each day we walk through the doors and I love that this is where many of our needs get met; through laughter, work, and sweat.
Most of my adult life I was very unhealthy. I drank liters of Diet Coke daily, had a high-stress job in Child Protection which led to eating on the go most of the time, I was obese, smoked a pack a day, and didn't have exercising, fitness, nor health as a priority. I wasn't a priority.
Flash forward...once I started taking care if myself I was so much happier and had so much more energy. I love my fit-fam and friends. I love how I feel when I fuel myself with what it needs and move how are intended. And I really love watching people have success as they define it and cheering them on (and sometimes pushing them) to reach their goals and beyond.

Bio:
Before this CrossFit journey, I grew up playing all kinds of sports primarily gymnastics at high level. After being a gymnast for 16 years I took a break and ended up not working out for nearly a decade post gymnastics. During my 10 year exercise break my body started to fall apart to where it was painful getting out of bed. Every weekend found me exercising with friends but it wasn’t until the last several years of ‘talking’ about working-out again friends mentioned checking out CrossFit because it had “gymnastics” things.
I have been interested in being a fitness professional since spring of 2017 but I didn’t try CrossFit until the spring of 2019. When I did I fell in love with the community! Since then it’s been my goal to inspire, encourage and invite people along my journey of discipline and accountability to see results. While those first few weeks started with me wondering why I was waking up so early, it had me leaving saying: “I can’t believe I just did that! I can’t wait for tomorrow!” We learn together and to not stop with “it’s too late”, but to be consistent and faithful in taking little steps and watch those “too late” or “too far gone” comments change into success. Seeing people learn a new skill or push through a workout puts a smile on my face and makes my heart proud!
I started CrossFit not able to do a pull-up or walk on my hands for more than a couple of feet, but it’s been a season of taking back those skills and learning new ones. Here is to showing up, being consistent and seeing results!
